Makin' a Scarecrow!

Now that we have our garden planted, we need to protect our precious fruits and veggies from the evil little critters that exist to steal them away from us! We decided a Scarecrow may be in order, so I set out to gather all the necessities....here we have some straw, overalls, a long sleeved shirt, a straw hat, twine, lumber, screwdriver and nails...time to build us a Scarecrow!


First, I screwed a 1x4 board (measured to be the width of the long sleeved shirt elbow to elbow) to a 2x4 about 6 inches from the top...this will be our Scarecrows backbone! He needs to stand tall and strong against all foe!

Then, I put the shirt on....

Followed by the overalls, with a little help from the Little Brat...

Then we took to stuffing the big guy with straw...I tied off the legs and arms with twine to help keep the straw inside....
Finally, I had to call in the big gunz to dig us a hole and secure the 2x4 post in it with cement....we get some mighty strong storms thru here, and we don't want him blowin' away! I think we're all set now....

There he is in all his glory....I hope he has a good work ethic, there's a whole slew of undesireables eyballing our lettuce!

Next, we'll be putting up some fencing.....it's due any day now....stay tuned!
