Twice Upon a Time....on the road to Induction.

Well, 38 weeks has gone by quicker than a fox in a hen house...we are scheduled for induction tomorrow and should finally be meeting the punks before the sun sets....of course, it is the 1st of April....which means something fantastic is sure to happen that is beyond the realm of normal or expected along the way...such is the story of my life....wish us luck....here's the last shot you'll have to endure of my bulbous waistline!
38 Weeks...on the dot!

Happy Trails,

Oddities around the house....

JR is cleaning the house from top to bottom...including dusting...even the fans....

Then I see this...

Then I find JR watching the show KENDRA...she just had a baby...and is battling the baby weight...and he has never watched this show before..I swear it.
Then I see this...
Then I find JR watching A Baby Story....it's a show about babies...making babies, having babies, lots of babies....and he has packed a 'Daddy Bag' for the hospital....for his stuff....
Then I see this....

...and I realize that the nesting instinct of my family rivals my own....conquers it, actually...so I go take a nap....because they obviously have it covered...

Happy Families!

Back in the saddle again...

The Little Brat has started group lessons this year at Hazlewild Farm...she is in the level 1 class with kids of varying age ranges...they all have one thing in common though, they are ready to ride! In her first lesson, she was given the largest horse on what could have been one of the coldest days of the year...brrrrr...but she wanted to go back the following Monday! Yeah! I did not get any pics, as I had forgotten the camera...

For the second lesson, she got another large horse, and the saddle was not fitting her very well...she struggled a little with trotting because she kept losing her stirrups, but hung in there till the end...how about some 2-point jumping position?

..and balancing exercises?

In her last lesson this past Monday she was finally given a size appropriate pony and rocked it! I also took her saddle so we knew she'd be fitted well...the combination was successful and next thing I knew she was showing off her moves....this is her first attempt at POSTING...she's almost got it down! So cute! VIDEO NOT WORKING>>>WILL TRY TO UPLOAD AGAIN LATER :(

Daddy has been coming along to play the part of groomer and tacker-upper for when I am otherwise preoccupied...he's got it down pat! I guess this means I am free to go pop out these punks now....any day now....annnny minute.....sigh.

Happy Trails!

Twice Upon A Time...37 Weeks!

37 weeks along this week...full term for twins....and still not a single sign or symptom of our impending labor and delivery!!!
I do have an update though...we went to our weekly appointment yesterday to find that the punks are measuring in at a whopping 6 lb 8 oz (Sophie) and 6 lb 2 oz (CJ)!!! That is almost 13 lbs of baby in this belly...Lord Have Mercy!...Basically, I am growing two average sized punks in there...both are well above the average growth for twins...not excessively so, or enough to cause concern for the Doctors.....but these two are definitely over-achievers....sigh...at this rate, they will weigh as much, if not more than Randi when she was born at 40 weeks (on the dot)...Therefore, we have scheduled an induction for the end of next week...all signs point to healthy babies ready to enter this world, so we may need to give them a little medical encouragement if they don't get moving before then...
I am currently dilated to 1 cm...nothing spectacular there...my OB did strip my membranes yesterday to help the process along and warned of spotting and cramping...I called my mom and she said it was enough to send her into labor with me....I have yet to feel any impact from the procedure though....well, there was that one shooting pain I had early this morning that gave me cause to think "Is this IT?????"....but my hopes were quickly dashed when all that was produced from the discomfort was gas...sorry guys, just keeping it real!
Soooooo, stay tuned...I'm hoping to be with children by the end of the week, but if all else fails, April 1st may be the big day!

Shower Power!

When my friend Dena asked if she could host a baby shower for us, I wasn't immediately a fan of the idea...I always thought showers were for first borns, and not subsequent punks...I eventually warmed up to the idea of having some friends over if for no other reason to hang out and talk babies! So, earlier this month Dena and some good friends stopped by to help us celebrate the arrival of Sophie and CJ....and their generosity was overwhelming...

We had a great time playing shower games like guess the baby food...

and guess the candy melted in the baby diaper...

JR took this one a little too far though...he thought you were supposed to TASTE the melted candy bar in the diaper....this guys is all mine ladies....oh yeah....all mine....

Others opted simply to smell and guess...a wise decision...

We got some wonderful gifts, like this infant monitoring system...this will come in very handy!

..and of course none of this fun would have been had without my best good friend of 15+ years, Dena...she rocks...

I got a call from another friend of mine, and current coworker of JR to alert me to a surprise shower they were going to throw for JR...I thought it was a SPECTACULAR idea! How often do Daddy's get to be the center of attention? Here's a shot of JR as he entered the conference room, completely unaware of what awaited him....I call this look "What the?????"

...just look at this adorable diaper cake that was hand made for us....so sweet!

....the turnout was overwhelming....I'm not sure he grasped how many of his coworkers liked him enough to spare part of their day in honor of his ability to procreate...lol

...he was humbled...and it took me the better part of the evening putting all this loot away...wow.

..but he did his thing...going through gift after gift, saying his thank you's along the way...oh, to be the center of attention!

...his favorite gifts were all the clothes with reference to "Daddy...." on them...awwwwwwwwwww

...and these plushies...you KNOW they must be soft and cuddly when a grown man snuggles with them in front of everyone he works with! lol

...the generosity seemed to have no end...I can't even begin to explain how blessed we feel to be surrounded by such caring and sharing people...

...and we will put every single heart-felt gift to good use....I already have big plans for this Radio Flier...it will be making appearances in many future photo ops ;)

Finally, my own workplace through a surprise shower for a coworker and myself last week...we actually have the same April due date! ....and wouldn't you know it, she had her daughter this past Friday, and here I still sit...all pregnant and stuff....life is so unfair! Again, we were blessed with more support than we could have ever asked for....

This whole experience has been an awakening for the good and graciousness in the people we share our lives with...we can't thank you all enough for the time and energy you all put into celebrating the additions to our family...we are so blessed! Thank YOU for all you are and all you do....

LB's first Awards Banquet...

If you are a frequent reader, then you have been able to follow the Little Brat's journey as in independent equestrian her first year 'off the lead'....If you haven't, you can catch up HERE and HERE ...her 4yr old year has been a memorable one! The VAHA show series is a nice mid-level competition series where we can go for a handful of shows per year and visit with good people and enjoy a nice facility too....it is close to home and the perfect venue for LB to be introduced into the horse world...when I get back in the saddle again (and eventually the punks too), it will give us the opportunity to ride, show, and generally spend a good amount of family time together...

Considering LB made it very clear she did not want to be lead around this year, her decision meant she would be competing against kids much older, larger, stronger, and better coordinated than her! She doesn't quite 'get that' though, so we just rolled with the punches, and she surprised me a few times by pulling out some very good rides...good enough to get her some fancy Top 5 year-end ribbons...the picture below is of her Top 5 finish in the Walk Division (consisting of Pleasure and Equitation classes)...

...she was ecstatic!

...even better, she won another Top 5 finish in the Walk Trail division where she had to steer her horse Bo through lots of different obstacles...this was a tough one, but the payoff obviously made it worth it to her...

...and finally, her horse Bo was honored with a Top 10 finish in the High-Point Horse division...way to go Bo-Bo! Note LB 'helping' hold up the trophy of the winner...I think she has her sights set on getting one of those herself...she starts group lessons next week, so we'll see how serious she really wants to be!

Thank you VAHA and to all your staff for giving us the opportunity to make such great memories!
Happy Trails,
Leah

Our Dining Room Makeover!

This Dining Room (and Entry) makeover has been a loooooooooong time coming! When we first moved in almost 3 1/2 years ago we really had our work cut out for us...we began by repairing all the plaster walls where they had worn and cracked over the years...and let me tell you what, we took all the help we could get...the Little Brat (below) even pitched in!

She pitched in a lot actually...whatever mommy and daddy were doing, she wanted to be in on...a baby with a cleaning sponge should not be underestimated! She did a fine job helping us clean and refinish the floors!

Oh Lordsy Mercy, I had almost forgotten that dire view into the old kitchen!

Who would have guessed that the walls would be just as dirty as the floors though...here you can see where we opted to postpone the removal of the wallpaper in favor of simply washing it down...that transition you see below on the wall from light to dark is actually where we had washed the wallpaper (on the right) and where we hadn't (on the left)....ewwwwwwwwww

There would be no ignoring the fact that this paper would need to come down at some point though...it had torn where the walls had cracked, and began to peel up after what we guess to be about 35-40 years of display!
Here is a shot of the DR as we were first introduced before we purchased...
...and here it is a short time after purchase...just a bit touched up so we could live comfortably enough to tackle other LARGER and higher priority projects...note the updated view of our newer kitchen layout as well...that was one of our most laborious home improvement projects, but essential as it was not a functional space when we moved in..
Here is a closer shot of our tired ole' radiator just begging for some TLC...
...so this is where my super creative, talented and hard working friend Kate and her team of fix-up Fairy's comes in....obviously I am too huge and otherwise unable to tackle this project without their help...Consider Kate my kinder, gentler, and much more amazing twin...I get a fancy idea, and she helps me make it a reality...it's a force to be reckoned with! I hear she can do this with ALL her clients, but I prefer to believe this is something we share exclusively...because I'm selfish like that...considering we plan on listing the place up for sale within the month, it needs to be done though! First impressions are only made once, and the main level needs to be at least as beautiful on the whole as the Living Room is that Kate helped us finish before! Here we go! Note Kate added a strip of trim up near the original (albeit puny) crown molding. This produced the illusion the crown was more substantial and matched the crown of the LR so much better now...and that wallpaper? It gave almost no fuss at all! It seems it wanted to come down as much as we wanted it down!

..I especially love the two tone paint on the walls...

...and the mantel can now stand out as the focal point it was always meant to be...

Here is a view into the Entry, which was also touched up as part of the package deal...what I love about this view is that you cannot even see the tired ole' radiator pictured earlier in this post...that's because it has been painted to blend right into the wall now...yippee!

...and speaking of the entry, with all this beautification going on we could not leave that large detail out! This front door is original as far as we can tell...and it's age shows....the previous owner kept dogs locked in this area and they had done quite a bit of damage to the floors and trim work...

We are going to have to find a new storage place for the strollers now!
Feeling blue? This colonial blue was used throughout the house...with bright white walls....out challenge was to keep our palette 'country' while updating the look and feel to something more warm and inviting...
Hello 'the-shade-of-tan-I-wish-I-was'! You are lookin' good!

...and Kate came up with the spiffy idea to paint our mismatched hardware black as well...I gotta tell you, it had a much larger impact than I expected...I love it!

With this phase of updates complete, we can now focus on the new siding and windows set to start going up next week...after this darn rain stops anyways...stay tuned!
Happy Home Improvement,
Leah

What are we up to NOW???

Hmmmm....that trash looks an awful lot like the old wallpaper in our dining room.
