Spooky's PETicure...

So, we got some new living room furniture this week in an effort to overhaul our tired ole living space. Our new sofa is lovely, and our new LEATHER love seat is just great! Just ask our fabulous feline, Spooky....he'll tell ya...they are soft and comfy and perfect landing pads for aerial catrobatics....problem is, a certain cat in the house, that goes by the name of Spooky, still has CLAWS....I had considered declawing him a few years back, but was advised by the vet that at his tender age, it would not be a good thing. He is 13 this year, and it seems the older they get, the more permanent their claws become.....Being that he exhibits such fondness towards our new LEATHER living room furniture, I needed to revisit my options for mitigating his clawiness....This is how I happened upon these little works of wonder called SOFT CLAWS!

Have you SEEN these things??? Very forward thinking! They are tiny little plastic claw sleeves that adhere to the nails to prevent scratching.....You see, Spooky has some vicious claws....they are never trimmed and are sharp as razors...left natural, he will have our furniture shredded into teeny tiny little tid-bits in no time flat....Here comes our careless kitty now!

I snatched him up before he knew what was coming, and JR prepared himself accordingly for the task at hand. Notice the look of fear in the poor guys eyes....JR's, not Spooky's....Spooky wasn't aware of what he was in for...JR, on the other hand, was!

Step 1: Trim the claw tips. Preferably with a fancy shmancy claw trimming tool. In the absence of such a tool, we used the kitchen shears...look at how much Spooky is loving all this primping...can you feel his glee? JUST like that sweet submissive kitty on the instruction sheet....NOT!
Step 2: Fill the tiny claw sleeve with adhesive. Yes, I was concentrating very hard, and Randi too.
Step 3: Finally, place the sleeve over the claw and press to adhere. There now, doesn't Spooky look happier already? I sure am! And so is our furniture!

Step 4: Release your kitty and observe for 5 minutes. Well, we got the 'release' part down...here is a shot of Spooky after said 'release'. It was difficult to observe him though, for obvious reasons...

Not to worry, when he finally forgave us, he came back to lounge on his favorite new furniture, and he had only managed to chew off 3 of his Soft Claw sleeves...I quickly replaced them, and now we can ALL rest at ease.

No animals, or family members, were injured in the making of this blog-post.

Happy Trails,
